MDMA-Assisted Therapy

For individuals who have experienced deep trauma or struggle with PTSD, finding a therapy that truly helps can feel impossible. MDMA-Assisted Therapy, offered and approved through Health Canada’s Special Access Program (SAP), is an approach with three decades of clinical research that is effective for healing trauma, depression, and other mental health challenges. At Soul Healing Psychology in Calgary, we support clients through the process to receive SAP approval, and provide subsequent MDMA-assisted therapy, offering a transformative opportunity for healing.

There is Hope

MDMA (3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is a synthetic compound known for its ability to promote empathy, reduce fear, and increase emotional openness. These properties make it particularly effective in addressing trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as it helps to diminish the brain’s fear response toward trauma memories, allowing access to process triggering memories without being overwhelmed. MDMA-assisted therapy combines the therapeutic use of this compound with talk therapy to create a space where individuals can confront and process their trauma in a deeply compassionate and supportive environment.

Approved through the Health Canada’s Special Access Program (SAP), MDMA-assisted therapy allows for the legal therapeutic use of this substance in Canada, with the support of a Health Canada approved therapeutic and medical team, to provide a life-changing option for individuals whose conditions have not responded to other treatments. MDMA is effective in helping clients safely process deep emotional wounds and trauma has garnered significant attention from both medical professionals and clients alike. It can offer profound benefits to those facing complex mental health issues, particularly those who haven't found success with traditional therapies.

Special Access Program Approval

The Health Canada approved Special Access Program (SAP) allows for the use of drugs not yet widely approved for public use in Canada, but are recognized for their potential in treating life-threatening or serious conditions. MDMA-Assisted Therapy is available through this program for individuals with severe trauma or PTSD who have not responded to other treatments.

At Soul Healing Psychology, we will apply for eligible clients for SAP approval through Health Canada. If approval is granted, you will work with our experienced therapeutic and medical team that specializes in the treatment of trauma, to engage in this groundbreaking therapy in a safe, controlled, and therapeutic environment.

Health Canada are currently assessing individuals for SAP approval who are 18 years and older, and have the following mental health challenges:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Experiencing MDMA in an assisted therapy environment allows for the safe and supportive exploration of trauma without the overwhelming fear response, hypervigilance, and avoidance behaviors that are synonymous with the disorder. The approach makes it easier to work through difficult emotions, and to revisit and reprocess traumatic events without becoming overwhelmed, promoting healing and reducing the intensity of PTSD symptoms. By enhancing self-compassion and emotional openness, MDMA-assisted therapy helps individuals integrate their experiences, leading to lasting relief and greater emotional resilience.
  • Complex trauma (including cPTSD): MDMA-assisted therapy offers a powerful approach to healing attachment trauma by creating a safe emotional space for exploration and connection. By reducing fear and enhancing self-compassion through the release of serotonin, oxytocin, and dopamine, MDMA allows individuals to process painful memories and emotions with greater ease. It fosters trust, promotes self-acceptance, and helps reframe traumatic experiences, paving the way for healthier relationships and emotional resilience. Through this supportive and transformative process, individuals can integrate insights into their daily lives and begin to heal the deep wounds of attachment trauma.
